WHY I BUILT ENCOVERT
I've been in law enforcement for a decade. Early in my career, someone pulled me aside and told me to make it hard for people to find me, get a confidential driver's license, and hide my property records. Good advice. I did it and didn't think much about it after that.
Then someone started using my name to run a scam. People who got scammed started reaching out to me directly. I had no idea how they found me. So I Googled myself.
My home address was on over 40 websites. My phone number. My family members. Everything. The property records I hid years earlier didn't matter. Data brokers pull from dozens of other sources, and none of that gets touched by the steps most officers know about.
That's also when it clicked for me. I always wondered how media crews show up at an officer's house after an incident goes public. Nobody from the department gave them the address. This is how they're getting it. Same sites. Same data. Available to anyone with internet access.
I built Encovert because the advice most of us got as rookies was a starting point, not a finish line. Your address is still out there. I built this to actually take it down.
